How We Got Started
Here’s the quick coffee-stained napkin story…
There once was a graphic/web designer, in the field for over 10 years, who felt overwhelmed, adrift and just not up-to-date anymore. So this designer started to scour the Internet - reading tons of books, subscribing to every magazine and email newsletter he could find, attending conferences, joining organizations - to get back in the loop. After all this research he became a sponge of information, realizing that it would be great to have all of this knowledge in one easily accessible area and available to the masses.
Light BULB! And so it goes…in one very long night…the name, logo and website was created, and the birth of Design Dump had emerged. I wanted to keep it simple, with a newspaper approach. Not too salesy, and not too overdone - just a clean and professional design. Since October 2004, operating out of Akron, OH, Design Dump now comprises a team of professionals bringing designers of all levels a credible and reliable resource. The Design Dump is quickly becoming a bookmark favorite for designers in many countries. We thank you for your support.
Our Name
So what about that name anyways? Honestly, the name was the first thing that came to mind. Hey, it was late, and it sounded good. I just wanted it to be catchy - something that would be fun and easy to remember.
Our Goal
The Design Dump was created based on one simple principle; share the knowledge and help keep graphic designers in the loop. The goal was to build a credible, valuable resource, that both print and web designers could utilize on an ongoing basis.
What Makes Us Unique
Design Dump has a team of seasoned professional designers and teachers that continue to share their time and knowledge into the idea of keeping us all in the loop. Our staff and correspondents consist of design professors, professional graphic designers, seasoned web designers, marketing analysts and students. We collectively scour the Internet, design magazines, books, conferences, publishers, and more to bring our audience the latest trends and topics in the design community. We do the grunt work so designers can concentrate on being creative. Our staff also contributes by writing useful and timely articles that inspire and inform our community.
We don’t just set up a long laundry list of links to other websites like most other graphic design resource sites do. We hand pick what we believe to be the best and most valuable, and toss out the junk. As you know, there is a lot of junk out there! So finding what you need in a timely fashion is critical.
Our Passion
It’s simple…we just want to help graphic designers stay in the LOOP! We know how hard it is in this fast paced society. And we know how even more difficult it is to find a resource that’s credible and reliable on the Internet today.
